Retomando lo que Still Life (Talking) deja atrás, Letter from Home igualmente triunfante, resalta los elementos brasileños con excelentes resultados. Si bien algunos de estos tesoros, incluidos "Beat 70", "Have You Heard" y "Every Summer Night", son lo suficientemente livianos y accesibles como para haberlos escuchado en algunas emisoras de smooth jazz, Letter contiene el tipo de profundidad y honestidad del cual es muy deficiente el smooth jazz, Metheny siempre ha sabido la diferencia entre lo ligero y lo de peso liviano, e incluso en su forma más delicada, siempre evita entrar en el territorio "Muzak". Fiel a su forma, el improvisador no teme hacer un uso extensivo de la tecnología, pero es lo suficientemente perspicaz para hacerlo de una manera muy cálida y conmovedora. Al igual que Still Life, Letter from Home es un buen ejemplo de un CD que es tanto  éxito comercial como lo es artístico.

Letter from Home es un álbum del Pat Metheny Group, lanzado en 1989 en Geffen Records. El álbum ganó el Premio Grammy a la Mejor Interpretación de Fusión de Jazz en 1990.

El álbum marcó el regreso de Pedro Aznar, quien se convirtió en miembro del P.M.Group en el álbum First Circle, aportando nuevas vías vocales a la formación.
