Swinging Jazz Violin album for sale was released Apr 24, 2007 on the Universal (Poland) label. When you think of the cornerstone instruments of jazz, violin rarely if ever comes to mind, but the contributions of innovators like Stéphane Grappelli, Joe Venuti, and Stuff Smith cannot be ignored. Swinging Jazz Violin is a fine overview of this often neglected but essential strand of the music's DNA, assembled with the thoughtfulness and taste that define the budget-line Jazz Club series as a whole.
The collection spotlights the efforts of the post-bop generation, homing in on the famed MPS Records catalog of the 1960s and 1970s. The violin's role in the burgeoning fusion aesthetic proves particularly fascinating, exemplified by cuts like Jean-Luc Ponty's "Cat Coach" and Didier Lockwood's "ADGC". Highly recommended to listeners still in the early stages of assembling a jazz library. Swinging Jazz Violin CD music contains a single disc with 17 songs.
